Saturday’s cow pie bingo contest at Richmond’s Field seemingly had everything: A huge orange grid of 100 squares spray-painted into the grass. Eager participants who shelled out $10 each to participate. And most importantly, the star of the show: Magenta the cow.

But it was all for naught. Just after 11 a.m., volunteers from LC350 let Magenta loose on the field and waited, and waited, and waited some more, for her to do her business on one lucky participant’s square. But the cow, brought to the contest by Pete Dellasanta of Pete’s Farm, wasn’t feeling it and finally just decided to lay down and take a nap. In the end, the winner of the 50/50 contest was chosen at random, with the other half of the $1,000 raised going to the Little Compton Scout Association.
