HERRIN — The Herrin City Council on Monday approved a property donation to Second Baptist Church. Members also finalized an agreement with Herrin Unit 4 schools for the football field property. The meeting included a discussion of ongoing water line problems that have tested the city throughout the summer.

The council voted to transfer 909 S. 10th St. to Second Baptist Church. The city acquired the vacant home through foreclosure, and Mayor Steve Frattini said the move saves Herrin from paying for demolition while helping the church address needs next door.
