HOUSTON — Congressman Al Green (D-Houston) announced he will not seek the 18th Congressional District seat in November's special election, citing concerns about leaving his current constituents without representation.
The 18th Congressional seat became vacant following the death of Sylvester Turner and has already attracted more than two dozen candidates vying for the position .
Green explained his decision would create a problematic situation for his current district.
"I'm not going to be in that special election, and I'm not going to be in that special election for a multiplicity of reasons but here is one: because if I chose to get in it, and should I win it, I would then have to vacate the 9th congressional district," Green said.
