CHICO, Calif. - Chico Animal Shelter is grappling with a significant influx of animals following a recent child and animal cruelty case. The shelter is working hard to accommodate the increased number of animals and is asking for community support.

According to District Attorney Mike Ramsey, 32 cats and kittens, along with three dogs were rescued from the home involved in the case.

David Petterson and Felicia Whitrock-Wyatt are facing charges related to both child and animal abuse. The rescued animals were taken to the Chico Animal Shelter for care and attention.

Gina Catallo-Kokoletsos, the animal services manager at the shelter, shared the challenges they are facing. "You know it's just hard logistically because we're a small shelter, we don't have a lot of space," Catallo-Kokoletsos
