A kitten who almost never made it to a shelter at all was adopted from a rescue in Lakeside over the weekend.

At 5 months old, Anira is a very energetic kitten with healthy fur and strong legs. But at three days old, the tuxedo cat was set to be euthanized at a shelter in San Bernardino County due to a problem with her legs. Her back legs were twisted and not strong.

"I've never done this with a cat before or an animal in general," Kendra Throckmorton told NBC 7.

Throckmorton heard about Anira at Kane's K9 & Animal Rescue.

"I took one look at her legs, and I knew instantly that I had to figure out a way to get her to me," she said. "Twisted leg syndrome is very much something that can be fixed if it's caught early enough."
