New Mexico State University has reached a settlement agreement with a student who claimed she was raped on campus in September 2022, attorneys for the student announced this week.
Under the terms of the agreement, NMSU will pay the student $1 million as well as implement mandatory training on consent and sexual assault starting this fall semester.
“Her courage in demanding this training is critically important to every current and future student at NMSU,” said attorney Elicia Montoya, a partner at McGinn, Montoya, Love, Curry & Sievers, the law firm that represented the student. “She has turned her painful and traumatizing experience into advocacy for a safer campus environment.”
