LONGVIEW, Texas (KETK) -- The Harvey Johnson Community Center in Longview celebrated its grand reopening today after completing extensive renovations.

The community center, located on East Birdsong Street, underwent a two-month makeover that included new appliances, fresh painting and landscaping.

"We didn't have any place to go on the south side," said Brenda Woolridge, a Longview resident. "So when I realized that this building had been used, I went to the city council to buy it, because we didn't have any place for parties or different things that people needed to do community-wise."
