BOWIE, Md. (DC News Now) -- Thousands of college students headed back to the classroom this week at Bowie State University in Prince George’s County.

Senior Nadira Avery is one of many who said she is excited to begin a new school year. Like many in the area, she's grateful for the nice weather to help ring in the new semester.

“This is so exciting to be winding down my college career," she said.

School officials say they are expecting an enrollment of nearly 6,000 students for this semester. Though classes officially kicked off on Monday, many students were still moving back into the dorms on Tuesday.
