WASHINGTON — About 60,000 UnitedHealthCare customers are now out-of-network at Johns Hopkins Medicine facilities.

An agreement between the two expired Monday after they failed to reach a deal regarding how care should be approved and reimbursed.

The medical center and the insurance company had been in negotiations for eight months.

UnitedHealthCare will no longer cover care at Johns Hopkins providers or hospitals, and their patients will now face out-of-network costs.

According to the insurance provider, the impasse impacts patients using Johns Hopkins facilities in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia enrolled in the following plans:

Employer-sponsored commercial plans

Individual Family Plan (IFP)

Medicare Advantage plans, including Dual Special Needs Plan (DSNP) and Group Retiree
