State and local officials are pushing back on a recent federal executive order targeting "cashless bail" jurisdictions for federal funding cuts — but also said they aren't sure it applies to New Mexico or what specific programs could be in peril.

The order, issued Monday by President Donald Trump, tasks the U.S. attorney general with compiling a list of states and local jurisdictions that have "substantially eliminated cash bail as a potential condition of pretrial release from custody for crimes that pose a clear threat to public safety and order, including offenses involving violent, sexual, or indecent acts, or burglary, looting, or vandalism."
