A bicyclist died after being struck by a vehicle in Darlington County. The unknown vehicle left the scene, according to Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred Friday night on East McIver Road, near South Charleston Road, about 6.5 miles east of Darlington.

The bicyclist was traveling west on the shoulder of East McIver Road. The vehicle was also traveling west when it ran off the road to the right, striking the cyclist.

Charles Wayne Polson Jr. died around 10:15 p.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene by Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee.

This incident remains under investigation by the SCHP MAIT Team.
