If you drive Erie's Bayfront Parkway, you will need to find new routes.

The parkway will be closed between Sassafras Street Extension and Holland Street beginning Sept. 2. It's expected to remain closed for construction for a year.

"The closure is expected to start before the morning commute on Tuesday, so it is important that commuters who typically use the parkway plan now for how they will travel starting next week," said Brian McNulty, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation executive in northwestern Pennsylvania.

Through traffic is encouraged to use 12th Street.
