The Statesville Planning Board recommend the approval of a rezoning request that would allow for a data center to be built in Statesville.

Compass Datacenters is seeking rezoning and annexation of 350 acres on Stamey Farm Road. The planning board's OK was met with loud opposition from residents who spoke out against the data center on Tuesday night.

“Were you listening to anybody?” one woman said from the crowd.

At that point, a number of people made their way out of the room of the city council chambers and spoke loudly to let their thoughts be known.
