A Republican lawmaker was caught on a hot mic saying he knows President Donald Trump is in the Jeffrey Epstein files, according to a new report.

The Washington Examiner reported on Tuesday that Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) said he believes Trump is "in there" during an Aug. 13 Muscogee County GOP meeting. Collins added that Trump is in the files because he “was the one that (sic) was telling the FBI about it," the outlet reported.

The report comes at a time when the Trump administration is still trying to distance itself from the Epstein files story. Trump promised to release the files while he was on the campaign trail, but his administration has since backtracked.

Collins also said that he supported releasing the files.

"We need to release it. I have no problem releasing it,” Collins said.

Releasing the Epstein files has become a fractious point for the GOP. Some of Trump's MAGA base continue to demand that the president release the files in their entirety. Republicans have also argued that the files should be carefully redacted, a move that analysts say would allow Trump to avoid releasing them altogether.

The Trump administration seems to be taking a different approach. On Friday, it released more than 33,000 documents from the Epstein files. However, there was almost no new information contained in the documents, according to media reports.
