Cullman businessman Heath Allbright is officially the newest member of the Alabama House of Representatives after winning the House District 11 special election on Tuesday.

Allbright, who ran as a Republican, received the overwhelming majority of the votes — 2,783 ballots, or 88.38% — easily defeating his Democrat opponent, Alex Braswell, who received 351 votes.

The HD11 seat opened up earlier this year when former State Representative Randall Shedd (R-Fairview) joined Senate President Pro Tem Garlan Gudger (R-Cullman) as a member of his staff.

Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl released a statement Tuesday, congratulating Allbright on his win.
