When critics of President Donald Trump describe his MAGA followers as a "cult," they often make their case by pointing to their extremely obsequious behavior — which ranges from Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Florida) wanting to see an image of Trump added to Mount Rushmore to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt calling for Trump to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
That type of obsequiousness drew scathing but humorous comments from MSNBC's Joe Scarborough during the Wednesday, August 27 broadcast of "Morning Joe," which the Never Trump conservative and former GOP congressman hosts with his wife, liberal Mika Brzezinski.
Scarborough showed a clip of a Cabinet meeting in which Trump was joined by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard, Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-Deremer, and others. And the MSNBC host demonstrated how over-the-top the Trump officials were in their praise of him.

Bessent told Trump, "You have brought us back from the edge. You have the overwhelming mandate from the American people. You're restoring confidence in government." And Gabbard exalted him as a "true champion for working people."
Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins thanked Trump for "saving college football," and Health and Human Services Director Robert F. Kennedy Jr. even told Trump he "is going to save the whales on the East Coast."
Lutnick praised Trump as "the greatest president," adding, "I'm having the time of my life working for you, Mr. President."
But Scarborough viewed those comments as downright embarrassing, telling Brzezinski and their MSNBC colleagues Willie Geist and Al Sharpton, "I'm having the time of my life, saying things that degrade me as a man…. Aren't they the ones that talk about beta males, beta?.... When Jesus told us to be humble, he wasn't talking about that. That is so unbecoming for any man."

Geist told Scarborough, "You just don't find more beta behavior." And the Rev. Sharpton, who hosts the weekend show "Politics Nation" on MSNBC, added, "I searched the Bible. I can't find kings in the Bible that needed this kind of glory. I mean, you have to ask yourself the mentality of the president that he requires this or even allows this. I mean, I wouldn't even allow it because it talks to your insecurity and self-doubt that you have to have this. It's really sad.
