LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Firefighters and nurses line the halls of the ninth floor at the University of Louisville Hospital.

Lt. Brian Hatt, 51, Raywick firefighter was wheeled down the hall, his fellow firefighters standing at attention and his family following close behind.

Hatt's family said he died Monday from injuries suffered in a crash Aug. 22.

Just days later, he made the ultimate sacrifice by donating his organs.

He gave the gift of life.

"It's definitely a blessing," said Hatt's son, Austin Hinshaw. "He was a lover. He would do anything to help anybody and didn't want anything in return. He might be gone from us, but his memory will live on forever."
