H. W. Wood

Horace Weldon “H.W.” Wood, age 86, of Menard, Texas, entered eternal rest Saturday, August 9, 2025, at his home, surrounded by family. H.W., as he was known to most, was born on September 6, 1938, in Post, Texas, to Henry Lafayette Wood and Ellen Margarene (Mixon) Wood. He grew up in Lamesa and graduated from Lamesa High School in 1957. In his high school years, he broke horses with his brothers for their dad’s business. He married Betty Lou Dyess on June 2, 1958, in Lamesa. H.W. was active in his community while in Lamesa; He worked as a firefighter and firetruck driver for Lamesa Fire Department for several years. He worked for Amos Supply, where he apprenticed to be a plumber. In 1968, he moved his family to Menard, where he owned and operated H.W. Wood Plumbing & Contracting for over 5
