MCCLELLANVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – A kayaker was rescued near McClellanville early Wednesday morning after getting stuck in pluff mud overnight.

Charleston County fire officials told counton2.com that emergency responders were dispatched to the McClellanville Boat Landing around 6 a.m. after a citizen said they located a kayaker in distress.

“The individual had become disoriented while kayaking yesterday, ultimately getting stuck in the pluff mud overnight,” explained Christopher Nash, Assistant Fire Chief of Administration and Charleston County Public Safety Directorate.

Nash said the passerby, who was preparing to launch his boat, heard the individual calling for help and was able to safely retrieve him from the mud.
