An allegedly intoxicated mail carrier struck a pedestrian at a Longmeadow gas station, seriously injuring the person, and fled the scene before crashing into a nearby bank, police said.

Robert O’Sullivan, 54, of Westfield, pleaded not guilty at an arraignment at Palmer District Court on Tuesday to charges of being under the influence of liquor, causing serious injury, negligence, and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, according to court documents.

According to a press release from the East Longmeadow Police Department, on Tuesday, Aug. 26, the department received multiple 911 calls reporting a crash between a United States Postal Service mail truck and a pedestrian near the gas pumps at the Pride gas station near the center rotary.
