Summer is winding down, as evidenced by the need to wear a light jacket and not-sandals this past week or so. There are wonderful drives going on throughout the borough to fill brand-new backpacks with fresh supplies for all the children in our communities, including those who may not otherwise get some nice new supplies to make them feel optimistic about the new school year.

The words “back to school” have started echoing in homes, classrooms, and stores everywhere. For some, it means excitement; for others, maybe a little nervous energy. But no matter how you feel, the start of a new school year is always more than just sharpened pencils and early alarms—it’s a fresh beginning for everyone involved.
