WASHINGTON — The Humane Rescue Alliance is asking for help searching for the person or persons responsible for the death of Waffles, a three-year-old pit bull, who was shot and killed on the night of Aug. 4 on the 600 block of 18th Street NE. Waffles was shot twice in his upper body and later died from his injuries.

"Waffles was a sweet dog who loved cuddles, running by the RFK fields, and smelling every signpost on the block," Sean Branchaw said in a press release, "He won folks over with his mismatched ears, affectionate groans, and enthusiastic greetings. He is dearly missed.”

Branchaw said that Waffles was an ambassador for his breed and won over their family, even the ones who were apprehensive towards pit bulls.
