SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The Runnel County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a new scam after receiving reports of an individual using the sheriff's identity to pose as a deputy and emailing fake court paperwork featuring the target's name.

In an announcement issued via social media on Aug. 25, RCSO stated that it had received reports of a scam involving a person posing as a Runnels County deputy while using the name of the county sheriff, Carl Squyres.

RCSO reported that the scammer has been claiming that the person they call "has a warrant out for their arrest from a federal district court in Ballinger, Texas."

"As you are aware, there is no federal district courthouse in Ballinger, Texas," RCSO said.
