MINNEAPOLIS (Gray News/AP) — Two children were killed in a shooting Wednesday during the first week of classes at a Minneapolis Catholic school, police authorities said during a press conference.

Authorities and a hospital said. Gov. Tim Walz called the violence “horrific.”

According to the chief of police, 17 other people were injured - 14 of them being children. Of those injured, at least two are in critical condition.

The Minneapolis city government said the shooter had been “contained” after the gunfire at Annunciation Catholic School and there was no longer any “active threat” to residents.

The chief of police said the shooter, in his early 20s took his own life in the parking lot after the mass shooting.

Walz said on social media that he had been briefed on the shooting.
