RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Reno Fire Department is making recommendations for combatting drones being flown over active fires.

They come on the heels of a drone shutting down flight operations during this summer’s Barron Fire in south Reno.

RFD says that the incident highlights the risk drones pose to wildfire response.

Their recommendations were:

Restricting drone launch and landing from city property

Enforce state and local laws related to obstruction of firefighting efforts

Lead community education and outreach on the dangers of flying drones over fires

“I get that people want to put their drone up. they are cool pictures. I’m not going to lie but, that is way less important than aerial support that we get during fires,“ said RFD Fire Chief Dave Cochran.
