MINNEAPOLIS — Two children, ages 8 and 10, were killed Wednesday, Aug. 27, in a shooting that has left 17 others injured at the Annunciation Catholic School and Church in southwest Minneapolis.

Of the 17 injured, 14 are children and two are in critical condition, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said at a Wednesday morning press conference. Officials said the gunman is dead and they believe he took his own life on the scene.

Police first responded to reports of shots being fired at the school shortly after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. The gunman fired an estimated “dozens” of rounds from a rifle, shotgun and pistol at children and school staff during a morning Mass through a window of the church, O’Hara said.
