Two children are dead and 17 others were wounded after a gunman opened fire inside a Catholic church in Minneapolis on Wednesday, Aug. 27, police confirmed at a press conference.
At a news briefing on Wednesday afternoon, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara said the "unthinkable tragedy" at Annunciation Catholic School was reported to police just before 8:30 a.m. and happened during a mass service at the church where dozens of children were in attendance for the first week of school.
The chief said that two children, ages 8 and 10, were killed while sitting in the pews when a gunman fired a rifle through the windows from outside. According to O'Hara, 14 of the 17 people injured in the shooting were children, two of whom are in critical condition.
