As a new school year begins, teachers want to make sure it is a positive experience for students. A big part of that comes down to behavior.

“Dysregulated students become kids who hate school, and I don't want that for a kid. Nobody does,” said Kate Dias, the president of the Connecticut Education Association, the largest teacher’s union in the state.

A Pew survey from 2024 found eight in 10 teachers had to address a student’s behavior at least a few times a week.

“We've seen some of the big explosions that result in torn-apart classrooms, tipped-over desks, broken equipment,” said Dias.
