INDIANAPOLIS — An AFC South rival claimed one of the players the Colts cut Tuesday.
Tennessee claimed veteran cornerback Samuel Womack III, who started eight games for a depleted Indianapolis secondary last season and made two interceptions.
But the Colts signed Xavien Howard and traded for Vikings cornerback Mekhi Blackmon in the weeks leading up to the cut deadline, and Womack struggled during training camp, drawing more flags in coverage than any other Indianapolis defensive back.
The 26-year-old, a 2022 fifth-round NFL Draft pick by the San Francisco 49ers, joined the Colts off waivers before the 2024 season.
As injuries hurt their cornerback depth, Womack played in all 17 games, starting eight, snaring two interceptions, defending nine passes and getting in on 36 tackles. Op
