A pedestrian is dead after being struck and killed by a car on Route 1 Wednesday morning in Prince George's County, according to police.

The crash happened along Route 1 and Montgomery Road, according to police. The driver remained on the scene. Maryland State Police and Prince George's County police were on the scene to investigate.

Both northbound and southbound lanes of Route 1 were shut down, causing traffic backups in the morning. The major delays were at the intersection of Route 1 and Rhode Island Avenue in Beltsville, Maryland.
