A critical 911 system failure left dispatch centers across Central California flying blind for hours Monday night, unable to see the location data and phone numbers of those calling for help.
“911 calls are being delivered correctly to dispatch, however the phone number and location of the caller are not being generated automatically,” the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office reported in a press release Monday evening. “This means dispatchers do not have access to a call back number or the location of the caller and are unable to send help to where it's needed.”
They department added that the “issue was affecting 911 calls in the entire central region of California, which includes among others, Kern County and Fresno County.”
