Fresno Unified School District is set to hire a new deputy superintendent, filling the role that current Superintendent Misty Her left when she took charge of the district in an interim capacity in May 2024.

The FUSD Board of Education will consider the appointment of Ben Amuku Drati, who began his career in education in Fresno.

The backstory: Drati fled war-torn Uganda with his family at the age of nine, immigrating to Los Angeles. • He attended Fresno State, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry while playing football.
