A mother and son wanted in a 2023 shooting death have been arrested.

Garnett Gaines, 45, and Mikeem Gaines, 22, each were charged late Tuesday with murder in the June 2023 Glenn Hills neighborhood slaying of 42-year-old James Brinson , the Richmond County Sheriff's Office announced.

Deputies arriving at 8:06 a.m. June 17, 2023, at 2823 Lumpkin Road, found Brinson with at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead 37 minutes later at a local hospital, Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen said.

The RCSO's Criminal Investigation Division and Crime Suppression Team, and the U.S. Marshal Southeastern Fugitive Task Force, executed the arrest.

Richmond County recorded 44 murders in 2023, according to the GBI .
