Law enforcement personnel and tactical teams took a stabbing suspect into custody Wednesday afternoon after an hours-long standoff outside his home in Northwest Portland.

The stabbing happened in the area of Northwest 18th Avenue and Northwest Johnson Street, according to Portland police. Residents in the neighborhood were asked to shelter in place.

Police officers responded to reports of a disturbance around 9 a.m. Portland police initially told KGW that one person was stabbed, but later said two people were stabbed and hospitalized. One of them has "serious injuries" and underwent surgery, according to Portland police spokesperson Mike Benner.

The suspect was later identified as 38-year-old Victor Palmer-Regen. Both people stabbed are expected to survive, Portland police said.
