NEW ENGLAND, N.D. (KUMV) - Two New England men will avoid jail time after taking a plea deal this week. They were previously accused of setting a high school student on fire.

Hettinger County Deputies say Daniel Dewall and Jaren Rafferty were shown in a video where they set the victim on fire on New Year’s Day.

As part of the plea agreement, Southwest District Court Judge Dann Greenwood dismissed the endangering by fire charges and lowered the aggravated assault charges to misdemeanor assault.

Dewall and Rafferty will face two years of unsupervised probation and pay $325 each in court fees.

Deputies say the victim is doing fine after 27% of his body was burned.
