As Charlotte draws closer to local elections in November, some residents are examining how elected officials have served Black communities and how best to hold them accountable.

Now, one organization is calling for a “Black Charlotteans Agenda” — an action plan that would list community priorities and outline strategies to get them implemented.

“There are a lot of misses in terms of what we really need and what they’ve [elected officials] set as priority,” said Brandi Williams, who leads the Eatmon Project, a grassroots initiative of For the Struggle, a Charlotte nonprofit.

On Wednesday, Sept. 3, For the Struggle will host the first of three town hall events to hear from Black residents about issues they prioritize. Information gathered will be used to shape an agenda document.
