LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Since 2006, Project Evergreen’s GreenCare for Troops program has helped over 20,000 military families, including families right here in central Kentucky.

“We’ve been together almost five years,” said Lexington resident Bailey Matheny. “We got married last September.”

Coming up on a year of marriage, Nicholas and Bailey’s anniversary will look different from most.

“He’s a Lexington police officer, and he’s also in the Marine Corps, and he’s currently deployed for the next nine months,” said Matheny.

Nicholas was deployed just a few weeks ago.

“It’s been hard,” said Matheny. “You definitely have to be a pretty independent person to have a spouse in the military, so I have a lot to keep me busy, and just been trying to make plans and stay occupied while he’s gone.
