KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - The 31-year-old man arrested in connection with the death of a police officer has been formally charged in district court.

On Wednesday, Wyandotte County prosecutors charged Dennis Mitchell III with several felonies:

on capital murder of a law enforcement officer

fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement by engaging in reckless driving

theft by deception ($1,500 to $25,000)

theft of property or services ($1,500 to $25,000)

criminal possession of a weapon by felon (adjudicated as a juvenile offender)

In the overnight and early morning hours of Aug. 26, Kansas City, Kansas, officers were initially called to the area of 75th Street and State Avenue for a report of gunshots.
