ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The “1a” and “1b” designations for Michigan’s running back tandem are more than just labels.
Justice Haynes and Jordan Marshall continue to share reps and responsibilities in practice ahead of the Wolverines’ season opener Saturday against New Mexico (7:30 p.m., NBC), leaving Michigan’s running backs coach unsure as to who gets the first carry. And indifferent.
“Don’t know yet,” Tony Alford told reporters on Wednesday. “We’re going to go through another day of practice and decide. Quite frankly, I don’t care.”
Alford said both players have been told they’re going to play an extensive amount this season, giving Michigan a real two-pronged attack to accompany freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood in the backfield.
