BOSSIER CITY, La. - 17 recruits graduated from the Bossier City Fire Department's Fire Academy on Wednesday.

Each recruit completed 19 weeks of fire and EMS training. Fire Chief Brad Zagone said he is confident that these recruits are well-prepared and ready to serve their communities.

Bossier City Mayor Tommy Chandler recognized their hard work during the graduation ceremony.

"They are here today because they would never know their strength until they faced their struggles," said Chandler.

"Ever since I was a kid, my dad was a firefighter, and it's something I wanted to do for a very long time," said graduate Nash Gilbert. "I finally learned the importance of discipline and structure, and turned my life around and was able to accomplish this goal."
