BLOOMFIELD — Following a three-week investigation by the Indiana State Police (ISP), the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office has decided not to file criminal charges in the death of a Martinsville Police Department K-9 named Sunny.

The investigation was initiated on July 30, 2025, at the request of Martinsville Police Chief Rick Lang. ISP First Sergeant Brad Stille determined that the K-9’s death occurred in Greene County, placing the case under the jurisdiction of Prosecutor Jarrod Holtsclaw.

K-9, a golden retriever named Sunny, was shot and killed by its handler, Officer Michelle Weaver, in June 2025.

Weaver reported the dog exhibited aggressive behavior, first toward a child and later toward another animal. She fired two gunshots and killed Sunny.
