The Church of England has described a data breach which revealed the personal details of abuse victims as “deeply regrettable”.
An email sent to almost 200 people who registered for updates on the Church’s redress scheme included unredacted names, email addresses and personal data.
Kennedys Law, the firm responsible for the breach, says it is “deeply sorry” and has referred itself to the Information Commissioner, which has the capacity to fine companies millions of pounds for data protection failures.
But survivors are calling for the Church to sever all links with the firm.
The man who set up the redress scheme, the Bishop of Winchester, Philip Mounstephen spoke about how appalled he was at the error and was looking for accountability and action from Kennedys Law.
