LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - From the renaming of their stadium to the long-awaited opening of the press box to the public, the McNeese Cowboys have tons of new upgrades for the 2025 season.

The most anticipated newest addition to the Cowboys’ field is the return of Head Coach Matt Viator.

“It means a lot to me, this university does. Working here for 17 years, it’ll be exciting,” Viator said.

The 2021 McNeese Sports Hall of Fame inductee is making his return to the program as the 19th head football coach in McNeese’s history.

Speaking of history, Aug. 27 marks five years since Hurricane Laura devastated Southwest Louisiana, including McNeese’s football field.
