BILLINGS, Mont. — Tracy Routh Lautenslager, 53, pled guilty to conspiracy to smuggle her foreign husband across the United States and Canada border.

U.S. District of Montana court documents say that on April 1, 2025, Lautenslager drove a vehicle into the U.S. through the Roosville, Montana Port of Entry, then moved on to the Swisher Lake area.

Later that morning, the U.S. Border Patrol was alerted to a man walking across the border illegally and searched for him.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police were able to catch the man and brought him to the Roosville, British Columbia Point of Entry to identify and process him. The man was identified as Lautenslager's husband, a UK citizen.

U.S. law enforcement confiscated Lautenslager's cell phone where they discovered text messages of the scheme.
