The Building Canada Act cannot only drive Canada’s economy, it could also make driving on Northern Ontario’s two major highways a lot safer, Danny Whalen says.

“The province of Ontario says we have the safest roads in Canada; I would argue we have some of the deadliest,” said Whalen, the president of the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities .

FONOM bills itself as the unified voice of northeastern Ontario, representing and advocating on behalf of 110 cities, towns and municipalities in the region.

In an interview, Whalen, who is a councillor for the City of Temiskaming Shores, said FONOM is pushing hard to make highways 11 and 17 safer.
