FAYETTEVILLE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- If you were passing by Wellwood Middle School this morning, you were likely stopped by the Manlius Police Department.

Officers were handing out flyers that warned drivers about the penalties of speeding through school zones. It's been a tradition for the Police Department since the 80s.

"Every year we like to do our annual school zone flyer handout," said Manlius Police Department Captain Jeffrey Salter.

"The whole concept of that is to remind folks who don't have kids in school, who moved into the area, about our school zones and safety issues in school zones and passing school buses."

The flyer details the fines and penalties for speeding in school zones and passing school buses. Drivers face fines ranging from $300 to $1,200 for violations.
