The Amarillo City Council met Tuesday, Aug. 26, for the final budget session of the season, approving a maximum property tax rate while reviewing raises for city employees, debating utility fees, and receiving a detailed update on wastewater treatment plant planning.
Tax rate decision
Council approved a tax rate not to exceed $0.43070 per $100 of valuation to support the 2025–26 budget. That figure, known as the voter-approval rate, is the highest the city can adopt without an election. Amarillo’s no-new-revenue rate, which would generate the same revenue as last year, is $0.37355.
