Fort Bend commissioners appoint redistricting committee members, approve raises for themselves

Fort Bend County commissioners on Tuesday appointed additional people to a redistricting advisory committee and voted to give themselves and other elected officials an annual raise.

The county commissioners have been locked in a partisan battle over redistricting for several months.

In February, Republican state Rep. Matt Morgan reached out to commissioners about the county's voter precincts – about a fifth of which are out of compliance with state population requirements because they include too many or too few voters.

Republicans on the commissioners court have pushed for the county to redraw its map completely, rather than simply fixing the voter precincts. They've claimed the current voter map, which favors Democrats, was illegally drawn ba
