Health Officials Urge Residents to Take Precautions as Mosquito Activity Rises

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County (DOH-Pinellas) has issued a public health advisory following an increase in mosquito-borne disease activity, with West Nile virus confirmed in several areas.

Sentinel chickens, which are used as an early detection system, have tested positive for the virus, prompting a coordinated response from local health and mosquito control agencies.

DOH-Pinellas and Pinellas County Mosquito Control are actively working to mitigate the threat. Efforts include ground and aerial fogging, the application of larvicides, and a systematic search for new mosquito breeding grounds.
