AUSTIN, Texas (KLTV) - The Texas House has passed an East Texas legislator’s bill that would provide ivermectin over-the-counter.
The final vote reached a total of 87-47 in favor of HB 25, authored by Joanne Shofner (R-Nacogdoches) after nearly three hours of testy debate earlier Wednesday.
House Speaker Dustin Burrows previously said Shofner’s bill was a priority for the second special session.
Debate on the House floor leading up to the vote was pretty heated. Rep. Rafael Anchia (D-Dallas) offered an amendment to rename the bill in honor of the Darwin Award, saying it was for people who wanted to be eliminated out of the general population.
The bill passed on a second reading by a vote of 88-51 before passing the third. It will now move forward to the Texas Senate.
